The Roadmap

A critical component of NextGen Michigan, U-M's multi-year strategy for information technology on campus, has been the creation of a strategic technology roadmap. The roadmap will help ensure that campus IT investments progress in a common direction. The IT Strategic Planning process is a collaborative endeavor that ultimately will generate the strategic roadmap. The high-level strategic planning steps are:

Each of the Mission Domains develops a strategic vision starting with an environmental scan. View the IT Council Strategy and Vision Presentations.

Campus IT leaders collaborate with the Office of the CIO to conduct a gap analysis, identifying the technology needs and developing a master IT plan.

The master IT plan translates the domain vision statements into an information technology roadmap. Instrumental to the Strategic Technology Roadmap is an underlying technology architectural roadmap to help provide structure and near-term targets. Enterprise Architecture assists in providing that structure.
